AASFAA President's Message

Welcome to Sweet Home AASFAA!

AASFAA is approaching another year and as the Executive Board we are excited for the opportunities to grow! With the many changes our profession are undergoing, AASFAA wants to be the neighborhood friend you can call on during your time of need. Our goal is to create an atmosphere of fellowship and comradery to get us through the times ahead. We are working hard to provide the necessary training(s) needed to outwit and outlast this upcoming year. If you are not currently a member of AASFAA, now is the time to join!

I am Cierra Smith, the current Director of Student Financial Services Eligibility and Reporting at Northwest Shoals Community College in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. As the incoming President, I am excited to lead this wonderful group of board members and committee chairs to expand our reach. I have no doubt that this year will be filled with great achievements. At our transition meeting, we discussed many goals for the upcoming year and I cannot wait for us to get started. However, nothing can be successful without all AASFAA members’ active participation. Please make a conscious effort to your colleagues to join and bring their knowledge, ideas, and active participation. AASFAA wants to provide a place for our members to grow professionally, and with your involvement, I’m excited to see not only how AASFAA can assist you, but how you can grow our membership and expertise.

As we embark on this journey together, I know that as long as we stick together, we will not only survive, but be successful. While we have been resilient and overcome obstacles as a team in the past, we are stronger because of it. We may be walking into the unknown, but we will walk through and be successful together! With everything mentioned, the theme for the year is: All in all, WE WILL SURVIVE! We will adopt the survivor’s motto, “Triumph through your trials and look good while doing it”. I am encouraged that as financial aid professionals we are familiar and adaptable to modifications, and it’s nothing we cannot survive. I look forward to looking good with you and surviving through it all this upcoming year! If you have any questions, comments or concerns, feel free to contact me.
